In the current year FSUE EDB “Fakel” has participated in the regional competition called “Amber Mercury”, which has been held annually since 2009 by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kaliningrad among enterprises, organizations, business-structures of various forms of ownership and municipal units.

Fifteen years have turned since the launch day of the two Russian telecommunication satellites called “Yamal-200”, which were designed and manufactured by the order from “Gazkom” (OJSC “Gazprom” subsidiary) at S. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation “Energia”.

In late November 2018 EDB Fakel finished a long-time life test of the SPT-140 for one of European customers.

On November 27, 2018, a telephone conference was held between representatives of EDB Fakel, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and A. Mozhaysky Military Space Academy.

On November 26, 2018, a scientific and technical board took place at EDB Fakel jointly with a representative of G. Budker Institute of nuclear physics. A. Beklemishev, a PhD in physics and mathematics and senior research scientist of G. Budker Institute of nuclear physics presented a report named “A concept of a helical plasma thruster”.

In the course of the speech information was also presented about a unique system named SMOLA (A spiral magnetic open trap) developed by G. Budker Institute of nuclear physics. This system should help take another step to the controlled thermonuclear fusion. This system will also enable accelerate spacecraft and automated spacecraft to record speeds.

G. Budker Institute of nuclear physics is one of the leading world centers in a row of fields of high-energy physics and accelerators, plasma physics and controlled thermonuclear fusion. Large-scale experiments on the elementary particles physics are carried out in the Institute using electron-positron colliders and a unique set of open plasma traps. Modern accelerators, intensive sources of synchrotron emission and free electron lasers are developed. For the majority of its activities this Institute is a unique institute in Russia. At the scientific and technical board the perspectives of co-operation between G. Budker Institute of nuclear physics and EDB Fakel were discussed aimed at a technical realization of new designs for perspective propulsion systems.

From 07.11.2018 till 09.11.2018 a visiting meeting between leaders of regional centers of the Earth remote sensing took place at EDB Fakel at the Baltic command and tracking station and Western regional center facilities of the Earth remote sensing.

On the 30th of October EDB Fakel held the workshop named “Propulsion systems for small S/C and nano-class S/C; new technologies and development perspectives”. The topic of the workshop aroused a serious interest among the Russian space industry employees. Representatives of 10 leading enterprises and 3 universities came to share their experience. They presented the audience with their reports for discussion.

On 26th of October EDB Fakel hosted the delegation of the Samara aerospace university headed by the Rector Evgeniy Shakhmatov and Sergey Prokofiev, the vice-rector for science and innovations.

On September 17th, 2018, the EDB Fakel held a yearly session of Science and Technology Board in order to summarize results of experimental and design activities in most challenging areas of thruster engineering. Apart from that the board defined the main scientific and technology research areas for 2019, as well as the action plan for scientific research laboratory for electric propulsion.

From 14th to 18th of May the «Space propulsion 2018» conference and exhibition took place in Seville, Spain, organized by the Association of aviation and cosmonautics of France supported by ESA and CNES.
